WINDSOR & ESSEX COUNTY CRIME STOPPERS TEMPORARILY PAUSES ACCEPTANCE OF TIPS

Windsor & Essex County Crime Stoppers Inc. has temporarily paused the acceptance of any new tips while it seeks further information regarding the security of the P3 tip management system and the measures implemented following the reported cybersecurity incident.

Windsor & Essex County Crime Stoppers Inc. has served the Greater Windsor/Essex County area for over 40 years, providing members of the public with an anonymous way to share information that can assist law enforcement in preventing and solving crime.

Earlier this year Windsor & Essex County Crime Stoppers became aware of a cybersecurity incident involving the P3/Navigate360 tip management platform, operated by Navigate360. Information that was made available at the time by P3/Navigate360 indicated that measures had been taken to address and mitigate the incident. Recent developments and additional information have since raised further questions that require clarification.

Protecting the anonymity of individuals who provide information to Crime Stoppers is fundamental to our program and to the trust of our community has placed in us for more than four decades.

As a precautionary measure, the Board of Directors of Windsor & Essex County Crime Stoppers Inc. has made the decision to temporarily pause the acceptance of any new tips while we seek further information and asses the safeguards currently in place. We respect the decision of our local Police services and recognize the need for public confidence in the systems used to receive and share information.

The anonymity and protection of our tipsters must come first. Crime Stoppers has earned the trust of this community for over 40 years, and we have a responsibility to ensure that the systems supporting our program meets the standards that our community expects and deserves.

Members of the public who wish to report a crime or provide information can contact your local Police Service. Please note that information provided directly to Police does not carry the anonymity protections of the Crime Stoppers program.

At this time, please direct all of your questions to the Canadian Crime Stoppers Association (CCSA) at info@canadiancrimestoppers.org
